I am adding a serial port (MAX232) to my device to connect to future addons that I will provide. I would like to have GND, +5V, TX, and RX on an external connector so that I can build a device that does not need its own PS. Can anyone suggest a good, compact 4 conductor connector to use? I am using a stereo 3.5mm jack in the prototype, but it does not have +5V since its only 3 conductor. I do not have room for a modular (telephone) jack. I will probably use a 4 conductor 3.5mm jack from CUI Inc., but the problem with that is that the only source for plugs that I can find is Digikey at around $10 a piece! Also I am a little concerned that if someone plugs a stereo plug in by mistake, it will short the TX, line to GND or +5V. Is there an alternative connector to consider? Does anyone know of a lower price source for 4 conductor 3.5mm plugs? Thanks, --BobG -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline?
