> I'm using the 1020 I believe? I don't have it with me right now, but its > the 20 second version There doesn't seem to be an ISD1020. Probably an ISD1420. See http://www.winbond-usa.com/products/isd_products/chipcorder/portfolio/ for a complete (?) list of ISD chipcorder products and their relevant specs. The 1420 has a 2.6 kHz speech bandwidth (6.4 KHz sample rate). The best quality ICs of this sort eg ISD2532 have a 3.4 KHz bandwidth with an 8 kHz sample rate. The difference is potentially significant. The ISD1416 has a 3.3 kHz bw which is about the same and is AFAIK a pin for pin replacement for your part but with a 16 second speech time. The ISD5008 allows you to select the bandwidth of your choice. Its implementation is more complex software wise (but not greatly so) but being SPI it requires fewer signal lines to drive it.
