What ISD IC are you using? The older parallel access versions such as the 25xx series came in 3 bandwidths. The more recording time the lower the bandwidth. eg the ISD2560, ISD2590 and ISD25120? ALL have the same amount of storage but give 60, 90 and 120 seconds of record capacity. The resultant quality goes from "quite good" to "not marvellous". I used the 2590 in talking communicator products and was told by a number of people that the quality was better than any other competitive product. That said, I consider it could have been better and the 2560 would be the obvious choice for absolute best quality. With the newer ICs such as eg 4000 series you can vary the sample rate/time tradeoff and you should initially set these to highest sample rate to see how they sound for your application.
