Yup, I tried solid core connecting wire - 12" about an inch apart, well actually I used a flat rule as the substrate. and I tried 10A auto wire both with the insulation on.

I'll try it all again sometime - I just wanted something to work in a very short period of time hence choosing the bog standard method.
