> 'No magic cookie. This does not appear to be a valid project' I cannot make head nor tail of this! I setup a project, save it, and it will load back later. I save it again, and next time I load it, the above message comes up. It is a real effort not to throw a brick through the screen! I got frustrated with MPLAB 6.x because of these kinds of issues. On my system, I get the "No Magic Cookie" because MPLAB 6.x cannot write it's project file to a Novell network drive. When I try to save locally on the C: drive, the problem is gone. Take a look at your *.MCP (project ) file. THis is created when you create a new project. If this MCP file is blank, you've got the same problem as me. Are you saving to a network drive? I think MCHIP has succommed to bloatware. Magic Cookie? for what purpose? Snacks for the Magic Elves? Did the software writers eat the magic mushrooms and magic brownies too? Sheesh! I gave up on 6.0 when I tried to use the simulator. Projects that simulate fine under MPLAB 5.x don't seem to work at all under MPLAB 6.x. The .LST file is inactive in the simulator in 6.x when I tried it. This means that you can't tell what assembly language is linked to which C code. This pretty much rendered the simulator useless for me, since I always write in C. Meanwhile, in 6.x the C source file did seem to be actively linked to the simulator, but it did not behave correctly. I could see correct behavior looking at the program memory file, and I could see correct behaviour looking at the whole thing in MPLAB 5.x, but in 6.x one line of my source file was highlighted and never moved. This baffled me, and I found the Uninstall icon to be the best solution for fixing MPLAB 6.x problems. I am glad MCHIP has finally joined the 21st century by adding a real windows interface with long file names and so on. Hooray for that. THey should have left the rest of the user interface alone, it was fine. They also should have tested this system on a few networks. When MPLAB 6.x comes out of beta test, I'll be ready to use it. Every project I do is a gamble - I am betting I can solve problems in a certain amount of time. I don't have time to waste on a buggy IDE. -- Lawrence Lile Howard Simpson Sent by: pic microcontroller discussion list 01/29/2003 01:04 AM Please respond to pic microcontroller discussion list To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU cc: Subject: [PIC]:mplab6 Hi People, I've been using mplab6 for a couple of weeks, and jeez it doesn't like me! Am I the only one, or do otheres have troubles with it? Specifically, the message: 'No magic cookie. This does not appear to be a valid project' I cannot make head nor tail of this! I setup a project, save it, and it will load back later. I save it again, and next time I load it, the above message comes up. It is a real effort not to throw a brick through the screen! It seems to do this at random, and I just cannot find any reason for it. Sometimes I save the workspace, (and the project) and it loads back OK. The next time I save the workspace (as well as the project) it doesn't load back, or it does - whatever it thinks is a good thing at the time. I really dislike this thing, except for the colours in the editor, and that is the only plus I can see at present. The only reason I downloaded 6 was because I'm starting on PIC18's, and they weren't on the list in Mplab5. (In hindsight, I should have asked before if there was another way, but I did not expect a hassle with 6) Regards to all Howard Simpson -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways.
