Download the spec sheet for the part. It will show which pins are which. Many TO-220 diodes don't have all three leads attached, and they may require a connection to the tab. There are several possible configurations, though, so make sure you get it right by either checking the specs or using a meter. Most have two diodes in one package, with a tab (center lead) that is either common anode, common cathode, or a junction of one A and one K. Physical connection is the same as for any other TO-220 device -- solder it to a PCB. Heatsinking may or may not be required. You will need to read the spec sheet to see if you have an appropriate part for your application. Selection criteria are voltage drop, current/power rating, reverse recovery time, and PIV. You will need to decide if it will work based on the voltages and frequencies you want to switch. Generally, it's preferable to choose the part based on the application rather than getting parts and then determining if they are suitable... -- Mike Poulton mpoulton@mtptech.com MTP Technologies KC0LLX -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
