Any of the HD44780-module based LCD's should be suitable. You can get them in 1x8, 1x16, 2x16 etc configurations, and are relatively easy to learn. You should be able to get a 2x16 for about $20 CAN, but probably cheaper since the store I bought it from was kinda expensive.
