Serial port is too slow for eprom programmers, a simple 27C801 (1MegaByte)
eprom can take up to 30 minutes via serial port, even at high speed.  The
most common way is via Parallel port, since it is fast.  Not all Eprom
programmers developped during the last years work nicely under Windows2000
and WindowsXP, it requires special software development.  Take a look at
http://www.ustr.net for a low cost unit, the Epromer5.
