Not quite disable it, but I know how to shrink it to a somewhat smaller
size...

Get Resource Hacker: http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/
Unzip, start...
Open MPLab.exe
Select Bitmap, Select 138, Right click, replace resource
Replace with a custom bitmap, could be 1x1 pixels or take a nice small
bitmap out of MPLab.exe again.
Save
Close

Enjoy your tiny splash screen... :))
