Oh yeah, there is a chip all right. The same one that converts the digital
video stream to analog also adds the macrovision pulses. So pulling the
chip certainly gets rid of the M/V, and all your analog video as well.

I suppose you could hack in a PIC to modify the I2C command stream to
clear the "add M/V" bit in the D/A.

Yeah, a simple top down horizontal wipe takes out the M/V.
Unfortunately they don't make the box any more.
