They are 14-bit core and are supported by PCM. Only the 12-bit core parts are not, like the 12C5xx. I don't know why Microchip didn't call those 16x parts. Check http://www.ccsinfo.com/devices.html for a list of what's supported by which compiler. For what it's worth, I have been using CCS for about 3 years now and am still very happy with it. I use it for both hobby and commercial projects. As with any compiler you may run into an occasional bug, but CCS support and the online forum have both been very good. I think I have had to find compiler bugs maybe two or three times total, and they were pretty easy to spot and code around. CCS even upgraded me for free the last time even though I had let the support lapse, since the bug was fixed in a later version.
