Where did you go to school? Sounds a lot like what mine was like (Cornell,
in case it's not obvious from the domain ;-)
And now I am a grad student :-) (although I've been firmly in the hobbyist
electronics category since well before I went to college so I already had a
lot of the practical knowledge that I missed in the classes).
