The sad thing is that most of the cheaper DVD units have codes/modifications that can turn off the macrovision in the player and keep the picture still. Most of the panasonic brands (like I own) do not. Our TV is less than 6 years old and I see the picture bloom and darken a bit when the macrovision kicks in. Annoying; those that play by the "industry rules" get an inferior product while those that would abuse the system get around it. I haven't seen a copy protection scheme yet that doesn't do this in some form on any media.
