We had a similar problem when we attached our DVD player.  Turns out there
was an obscure line in the manual (my daughter found it, not me) that said
you couldn't daisy-chain them.

We got a box from Radio Shack, I forget the name, that did the video
switching and did an EXCELLENT job of solving the problem.
