1.5 sounds too big! The 18g is 1.3mm OD and the 21g
is about 0.8mm OD, I just measured them.

The big needle will hold the part too well and it
won't release when you touch it on the paste.
Max lift is not the issue, it's a balance of the
right lift but not too much... :o)
