About a year ago I asked this same question. I had been using C and Assembly on PICs, and QuickBasic on PCs. Now I have to support things like mice, Ethernet, and USB serial ports, none of which were supported by QuickBasic. I gave VB a real try but concluded it was just too horrible for the things I wanted to do. I am now using Java for the little PC interface programming I do.
