I'm doing 4 channels of dimming (64 levels) plus bit-banged serial comms and a bunch of other stuff on a 12f675 (8 pin PIC) at 4 MHz so I'd think that you should have not too much trouble expanding to 9 channels on the '877 @ 20 MHz.
