During my search for an embedded Linux, I tried installing Red Hat 7.3 whilst turning off everything--no developement, no servers, no X at all. The result: 380 MB ! Debian, after the initial setup (before you get to all that package stuff) checked in at 55 MB. So the definition of "minimum" system varies quite a bit. Wagner, I think, is ready for Knoppix. And it can be run on your real computer because there is no setup! Open Office is on it!
