I've certainly seen / heard / smelt (even all from one cap) some most interesting failures. Best ever was: Bad smell, followed hissing then shrieking noise, smoke, sudden flame spurting from side noisily and finally a loud explosion - a special effects man could not have wished for a better capacitor failure.
