Why not simply have referred to a standard 'flashlight
battery', 'dry cell' or alkaline from the start - as
these common cells have been known for decades? Dragging
up the term "LeClanche" would only seem to be an 'obscuring
reference' to such cells.

We could have avoided all that with one of the aforementioned
common terms. For years the bulk of us have known the difference
and respective properties between Zinc-carbon, Alkaline, NiCd,
Silver-Oxide, etc ...
