One of my customers is looking at getting some custom LCDs made. Volumes will be fairly low (up to 1K/year), and displays will be nothing exotic - 7-segment plus symbols, 3:1 or 4:1 mux, a couple of square inches, with pins or zebra strip connections. I'd appreciate any opinions from anyone who's been through the process... Is it better to deal with a local rep or a far-east factory direct ?=20 Any recommendations on Far-East suppliers that are easy to deal with, and will not lose interest if volumes are not huge ?=20 Similarly anyone have recommendations of people in the UK that have provided a good service ? =20 It looks like tooling and 1-offs will be a major part of the cost, and it would be useful to have some idea of the breakdown of 1-off costs, so, for example we can decide if it's worth doing a detailed layout ourselves or supplying a 'rough sketch' and letting the supplier turn this into a layout, as they will be more familiar with design rules etc and can presumably pull standard patterns like seven-segs out of their library.=20 . What's the typical/best turnround time for initial samples & production.. ? At what point does it start getting more expensive ?=20 Anything you wished you'd known before getting a custom LCD done....?=20 -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
