Hello! I'm a relative newbie to electronics design, and I would like to = implement a timer or clock circuit. I am running a data-logging circuit = with a microcontroller storing data to an off-chip EEPROM. I need to = provide this data with a fairly accurate time-stamp (~200-300 ms). What = chip should I use to provide my microcontroller with a time stamp to = store with the logged data? I've looked into using a 555, but I'm not = very familiar with its function.
