A free sample of an expensive LCD would be even better !!

My suggestion would be to contact an electronic repair shop or
recycler and ask if they have any dead fax machines/photocopiers.
They almost always have an LCD, as do many printers and some
keyboards. I've a box full of them (no, you can't have one) ranging
from 16x1 to 40x2, all free. Customers get new ones of course
