Hi
I am relatively new to PICs and have very little electrical knowledge. I
have been using a PIC16f877 on a prebuilt demo board. I am now at the stage
where I want to use the chip away from the demo board. I have put the chip
in a breadboard and put +-5V on pin 11 (V DD) and 0V on pin 12 (Vss) I have
then tried to run a very simple program (moving a number in a register )
when I try to run the program (or reset or step through) I get the following
error message:

Error Performing Requested Operation

I am programming via a MPLAB ICD programmer which recognises that the chip
is there.

what am I not doing have I not connected something that I should have?
