One possible explanation for this is that a newer version of the Common Controls Library (comctl32.dll) shipped with IE5. Microsoft has done that before. However, that would also be a goof on Microchip's part, as the last time I checked you could redistribute that library with your application. Perhaps that's changed. Another possible explanation is that they are using ActiveX controls in something, and that IE upgrade improves some COM support issue = somewhere. Again, not really an IE thing-- just shipped with it. Cheers, Matt PS: If you haven't already noticed, Microsoft is trying very hard to make a network connection a mandatory part of any PC. Of course, at the same time, it is also trying to get Windows NT Embedded, Tablet PCs, Windows Automotive, and son-of-WindowsCE all up and running, so as usual they're stepping on their own toes. Windows NT Embedded, incidently, is the most compelling proof that IE is not, by any means, part of the operating system itself. However, by shipping upgrades to things like the Common Controls Library with IE instead of an operating system service pack, they can make it "feel" like the system doesn't run right without it. > -----Original Message----- > From: Jan-Erik Soderholm [mailto:jan-erik.soderholm@TELIA.COM] > Sent: Monday, November 18, 2002 11:32 AM > To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU > Subject: [PIC]: MPLAB 6.10 released >=20 >=20 > I downloaded the MPLAB 6.10 kit earlier today. >=20 > When installing (or trying to), the install program bombs out saying > that I'm lacking Internet Explorer V5.
