Hi all. I have a bunch of former cell phone chargers. They are all really nice looking SMPS in small wall wart style. I have two groups, one that puts out 5.5V at 500mA, and one that puts out 5.3 at 500mA. My problem is this: since they are really close to 5V, I can't use a 7805 on them. Would a SMPS be voltage stable by definition? Do I need try regulation, or would a regular diode or two to drop voltage be enough? Should I use a 5.1V zener instead? These aren't for any sort of commercial project, just my own little homebrew things.
