Yes do a search for "digital transistor", typically a single npn transistor with a base-emitter resistor and a series base resistor to the outside world. Designed for exactly this sort of use. All this comes in a SOT-23 package IIRC. Made by Rohm and Vishay/Telefunken among others IIRC.
