Ok so the main use you see is as an oscillator
to drive the power stage. I'm still not sold, with
low voltage input wouldn't it be best to tailor
oscillation more around the inductor current,
so that when the switch turns OFF you get a nice
packet of energy to the output?

It is an interesting circuit though. :o)
