If all you want to do is get data off, open the lid & try to hand-start (without touching the platters) If it starts, copy stuff off and throw it away (after stripping out the neodymium magnets, of course : http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~wwl/neodym.html ) Take care not to breathe on the platters as the condensation makes the heads stick - this can be rather spectacular if done at speed...!
