Hi everyone, I'm new to PIC programming. I got a programmer, a PIC18F452 and my first LED flashing program running last Thursday. Since then I've been learning something new every day. I've been looking at debugging solutions. As I'm just a hobbyist at PIC programming I don't want to spend lots of money on an ICD, so I thought of GDB connected via a serial port would be a nice alternative. After some searching I haven't found anything. With that in mind I started to implement the remote protocol for the PIC18. It can communicate with GDB, but doesn't yet return anything useful. I noticed that there is GDB support for the AVR chips. From my brief investigation it seems that 3 parts are needed for basic support in GDB. 1) remote stub running on the device 2) opcode/disassembler 3) binary file loader I wonder if anybody is working on any of these or would be willing to having a hack ?
