MIME and HTML are definitely useful in many situations, but not public
mailing lists, in my opinion.
Despite not having mime support, I'll concede that mime has a place for
sending binary files like jpgs or schematics. But using a non-ascii format
for text that is "almost ascii but assumes that you'll be using a particular
font on your computer so that it'll act like a wintel PC" is just ... evil.
