I can confirm this. We also have one programming station on a laptop (WinXP) without a serial port. It works through a USB to RS cable, don't know the manufacturer, but the type is UC232A. In the .INF install file, the manufacturer is USB2SERDevices, device spec is SerialPort, VID_0557&PID_2008. Just make shure you install it somewhere in the range COM1 to COM4, as MPLAB won't go any higher. I think they are bought at different locations, every time we see them, we take one with us. So we have about 5 of them lying around. It's just a grey or green cable with all the electronics inside the DB9 connector, green ones are long, grey ones are short. See http://www.bb-elec.com/product.asp?sku=UC232A&dept_id=145. Regards, Claudio -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Just to verify we understood you right, you have: 1) Windows XP 2) Microchip ICD (original not ICD2) and working with 16F87X 3) Michrochip MPLAB 5.7 4) Some brand of USB to Serial adapter If this is correct you have a found a way around a problem many people, including myself, have been facing. Please let us know the brand of the adapter you are using and if possible the vender. Thanks. -Eric __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
