By mail:  digikey, as Dale said.
Walk in:  Fry's Electronics if you have one in your area (I don't, but
got to check one out in Phoenix at the masters)
And, of course, Radio Shack.
You may also be able to find surplus outfits with a good choice of new
components, breadboards, etc in addition to the surplus stuff.  Around
here (Twin Cities, MN) we have Acme Electronics and Axman.
