Hello, You might want to take a look at the IP2022 from Ubicom. It has two on chip serializers/deserializers which can handle just about all types of serial communication, including ethernet. Higher level protocolls are implemented with software modules. On the downside is the rather high priced development tools (it's clearly not intended for hobby use). It would be nice to play with though - at a demonstration, a web server was put together in a couple of minutes with standard software modules. Well, that was for an FAE demonstrating it, it would probably take me a couple of days.
