That can work, but finding the transformer can be tough. The little audio output transformers work sometimes, but they aren't ideal. If you can, you may want to salvage one from a disposable camera flash unit. The little transformers are just about perfect. It really is much easier to buy the inverter unit from DigiKey for $5, though.
