Yes, I've checked all the settings (configured for hardware flow control
from system settings, and fifo turned off in the ini files), as well as
verifying that there's no conflicts and that other serial devices work on
the port.  Occasionally, the programmer will work intermittently, perhaps
getting so far as to establish communication with the OS and read a
hundred bytes or so before communication fails, but never time enough to
do anything significant.
