Hi Nate, Thanx for your kind words about the book and your comments on the El Cheapo. It seems to me that something less than 5% of the PCs out there do not have suitable Parallel Ports for resistor based bi-directional outputs. This seems to be a conclusion that you have reached yourself (by personal experience). The problems seem to be due to the parallel ports not driving out a full 4.5 Volts, which is required for the ICSP programming specification. This is why I'm pushing the buffered approach to the El Cheapo and the new circuit. I would much prefer just getting emails saying how great the book is rather than the occasional email saying the book is great and could I help getting the programmer PCB to work. We are discussing changing the PCB that comes with the book to use the newer circuit. The issue will probably be resolved later this year when I have a new PCB design, it is costed out and current (robot) projects are completed. myke ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nate Duehr" To: Sent: Friday, September 13, 2002 8:28 AM Subject: [PIC] Followup to "El Cheapo" issues - kinda solved > Just a quick follow-up before I forget...
