I tried to send this earlier but I think I blew it.


I have used PIN diode photodetectors (with the lid off) as alpha
detectors. I think they were EGG 10mm sq quad detedector (just cause I
had them). Hooked them up to a transimpedence amplifier with ~ 1 megohm
feedback i think.
Of course it only works in the dark.
Mine seemd to be blind to beta and gamma radiation.

Hi all,
I'm started to find for a simple radiations detector (homebuilt) for Alpha
particles, to connect with my PIC Datalogger.
I am interested only for Alpha particle because I want trace a map of High
Radon levels in some caves of my country. For a first approach isn't
necessary a very high sensibility but the circuit must be able to sense a
relatively high level ( ~ 10 pCi/L or higher).
