Hi All, I have found some bi-color 8x8 LED blocks to make a moving message sign. I'm trying to find the most cost-effective drivers to use. For each 8x8 block I need 16 sinking drivers that can handle 80 ma each. That part is easy enough, I'm looking at TPIC6B273.(8 bit latch up to 150 ma per OC out) A bit more trouble are a set of eight source drivers. Each will be switching up to 1280ma, though only one will be active at any time. It's a "One Off", so a few pennies won't matter, but I'll have eight sourcing drivers for each 8X8X2 block, and I'm planning at least 8-12 of these blocks per display. I can do discretes, but the cost X 8 X blocks goes up fast. My knowledge of semi driver options is a few years old, I'm betting there's something better than just using TIP125. 8^) TIA, Lyle Hazelwood -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways.
