I thought you wanted to go straight to the COM port of a PC.  This is the
first I heard of "no RS232".  The recommendations I was making were assuming
that.

You need to define what the other device is.  I guess the logic levels are 0
to 3.5V.  Are the levels inverted from normal RS-232 like the PIC UART pins?
