The new switch will have either 1) a seperate port for uplink (usually one of the regular ports has two jacks, one regular, one uplink) 2) a button to select whether one of the ports is regular or uplink (not too common) 3) automatic selection - it will determine whether any of the ports is hooked up 'backwards' and automatically make that port an uplink. My most recent 16 port switch from linksys had this feature. -Adam Jai Dhar wrote: >Hey, > >You guys are right, it would be much better to simply get a switch. But 1) no uplink port on the router, just a link for the WAN (DSL/Cable) connection. Would hooking an uplink port on a switch to a regular router port work? Or using a crossover cable from a switch port to a router port?? >On Sat, Aug 24, 2002 at 11:49:18AM -0400, Marc Joffe wrote: > > >>Hi, >> >>I have to agree with Adam.
