You can get bootable iso's at
ftp.freebsd.org:/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/ISO-IMAGES
4.6.2 is the latest stable release.

If you don't have space on another machine to install freebsd works great
under vmware, but I'm not sure how good the parallel port support is.
