Advice: always put a dummy resistor immediately adjacent to one of the
short sides of the DIL. And put your chip in a round-pin (machined)
socket, and put that combo in the breadboard. For extra fools protection
put a diode over the power/ground pins (I do that only with expensive
windowed chips).
