A net station that is gone ga-ga and sends senseless packets on the
network (and does not respond to protocol requests). Like a virused or
partly crashed windows box for example.

Without knowing your box uplink and downlink should be ports to connect to
an upper and lower hierarchy hub respectively. They may have collision
detection and jabber detection un-handled (since it is not this boxes
responsability to handle that).
