-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Russell has stated the dangers of GE. There are some corollaries that he's missed. Nature abhors a vacuum. Or, rather, nature seeks a balance. For, at the very least, the past 300 years, humans have been on the unquestioned top of the chain. We have no real natural predators, and are able to deal quite effectively with any creatures that we can see. If all the cats of various sizes in the world were to suddenly decide that it was their time, we'd lose a lot of people to their house pets, but then the cats would be systematically dealt with. Now, on the other hand, we have virii. We are completely vulnerable to these little guys. We can only beat them after someone has fought their own internal battle with one and won. Then we have some ammunition to fire back, but until then, we can't do anything except aleviate the symptoms. Now, if we can't really fight virii, then they would make the ultimate predator for us. Our only recourse would be wholesale destruction of a contaminated area. Which, if it were our own labs that created the monster, would mean that we had to destroy the only evidence that would allow us to cure the problem. How ironic would it be if we were to create our own natural predator? I hope we, as a race, are smart enough to edge around the pitfalls rather than jumping over them, since we obviously can't jump that far. - --Brendan -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 6.5.8 for non-commercial use iQA/AwUBPWJrEQVk8xtQuK+BEQI6xQCg3xXXDTkqI+wC19ZC0gQukCn8B1sAoIW8 igY7psScWNnl9fs4VZ09OnqA =lssn -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: [PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY!
