-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Ya know, The biggest need I see out there is for a good power supply, and a few common tools. I mean, how much should it cost to get a dual 5V/12V 5A/1A powersupply, with a 0-20V voltmeter, and (since I want one so badly) a logic analyser to attach to a PC, or display on LEDs? As everyone keeps mentioning, there's lots off good programmers out there for a little cash. Now, I propose another tack for the PBK, which I will codename PDS -or- PIC Development System Contains: 1x5V supply, 1x12V supply, 1x20V DVM 1x16-bit LA, 1xTAIT-style programmer, 1xBreadboard, 1xPIC, 1x20MHZ crystal on a board with caps. I expect everyone to disliket his idea, I'm just offering it as another perspective. As far as I can see, it fills many of the needs. If it could be put out cheap, it'd help a lot, I think. And, furthermore, I don't think it impinges on anyone else's market. Needs it fulfills: *Viable, functional programmer, with integral supply. *Dual voltage power supply *2 important debugging tools: LA and DVM *Simple plug-in crystal The Crystal on a board with caps could be built in such a way that it would plug directly into the board with no wire required. Just a 3-pin device, which is designed to attach to the ground line and the 2 requisite PIC pins If we wanted to get really clever we could even provide software that would allow the PC to read the DVM, thus providing a simple oscilloscope as well. If everything were really well documented, an LCD and a PIC could be used to handle most of the internal functions, and display supply voltages, 2 DVM channels, and the LA all on one display. And even allow disconnecting of the LCD for use with a development project, while still allowing remote display on the PC. And once again, I don't think that this falls under anyone else's market share. And like I said before, this is just another perspective to consider. I'm not even saying that I think this is the best idea, I just think that we should look at more of the angles. - --Brendan -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 6.5.8 for non-commercial use iQA/AwUBPWFA0wVk8xtQuK+BEQIVUQCeIjUjMdCgbpgw8ByZxlr+0YP014UAoMnf 5SNw6BxzE90EsU8jzb1XJwSj =J5Xw -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
