I have a bootloader at http://www.voti.nl/wloader . I sell 16f877's programmed with this loader, but the code is free (LGPL), both for the PIC and for the PC. Note that this bootloader is a bit special because it uses only *one* PIC pin and does not use the internal UART. Consequently it uses more code (1k) than others (typically 256 instructions). On the page are also a few links to the other free bootloaders that I know of. So take your pic!
