I did this once many years ago. I cannot remember the exact details but it was trivial. A lot less hassle than a CD-ONLY system and a lot faster. Booting to linux was just a simple click on a desktop icon. Sorry I can't remember which distribution it was, but I do remember it was a straight forward installation option and not a magic key hack.
