The smoke comes from PICsees smoking DAC, after electronic equipment
 has been in service a few years the ash build up on the circuits in what =
we call
"dust"
After letting all the smoke out the PICsees get the munchies and start =
eating the=20
packaging of the circuit.

And you thought is was electrons!

Sure there is.  All electronics run on magic smoke.  If you let the
smoke out, the electronics cease to function.
