You might want to check out Amtel's DataFlash memory.. you can read and
write to it using serial SPI, and they have a package that is the same size
as MMC (multimedia card) memory.  This is NOT the same as SmartMedia from
what I understand.

Watch out, is MMC the same as SmartMedia?  The pictures
don't match.   SmartMedia has contacts on the top of
the module.  None of the MMC pictures show this.
